The line up at the lobby of the Embassy Suites of Boca Raton, was the premonition for an enjoyable session of learning and networking. Following registrations, participants were able to step into the auditorium to head start with The Association for Women in Communication South Florida Chapter President, Tonya Scholz’s warm welcome reminding the association’s goal to empower women (through wealth growth). Participants in all areas: Entrepreneurs, Non for profit advocates, Lifestyle and health, Tech & Innovations and Education amongst other fields created a vibrant audience eager to share, network and pitch within their questions to seize opportunity. Moderator, Emily Taffel-Cohen (founder and co-owner of Mugsy PR), led the conversation by inquiring the panel about: Biggest pitching pet peeves, Best day and time to pitch, Pitches that have stood out, How do YOU prefer to be pitched What makes the perfect PR package and Pay 2 play vs authentic editorial, and others. This allowed to harvest a few general notions throughout the panel:
- Information must relate to a local concern, involve people, and denote implications to the community.
- Means of communication prevail within social media and email.
- It’s all about relationship building, making sure to review the person, do your homework, throw them a compliment.
